The St. Johns Unified School District is comprised of an elementary school,
middle school, and high school. The Coronado Elementary school is located on a
6-acre campus. Here, the experienced staff and small class sizes provide a
nurturing environment for young minds. Coronado places an emphasis on developing
study habits and a positive learning ethic as a foundation for future education.
St. Johns Middle School is recognized for its outstanding achievements in
statewide math competitions and Stanford Nine tests, which emphasize the basics
of math, language, and reading. A comprehensive computer lab, new facilities,
and numerous extra-curricular activities support the rural-friendly environment—where
students and families know each other.
St. Johns High School has won both regional and state championships in the
Academic Decathlon for the past 14 years. Combined with 26 athletic programs, 7
vocational education offerings, and numerous fine arts classes, the curriculum
is one of the finest in the State. Whether preparing students for entry into
collegiate education, laying the foundation for future leaders, or providing the
knowledge and skills needed to be a productive part of today’s workforce, the
St. Johns Unified School District is committed to providing a comprehensive
curriculum in a safe learning environment. The Letty A. Patterson Auditorium
adds professional theatrical and orchestra venue, which hosts numerous community
events and is a source of community pride.
A leader in the area’s economic development efforts, Northland Pioneer
College is a pioneer in providing customized and workforce development training
throughout Northeastern Arizona. NPC’s centers in Springerville/Eagar and St.
Johns are part of an accredited, multi-campus, state-supported community college
with four campuses and six centers serving over 21,000 square miles. Northland
provides courses for completion of degrees and certificates through three
educational "paths." Occupational - providing career training in 25
areas; Transfer – preparing students to pursue a four-year bachelor’s
degree; and Lifelong Learning – enhancing the students’ knowledge and
skills, upgrading employment skills or personal interest.
The Northern Arizona Vocational Institute of Technology (NAVIT) allows high
school students to participate with other high schools in northeastern Arizona
that specialize in areas such as computers, agriculture, media arts, automotive
technology, welding, cosmetology, and electronics. In conjunction with their
traditional studies, the Institute focuses on providing current and in-demand
job skills, and works closely with the communities to address workforce
development needs. NAVIT is supported through a special tax from the residents
of northeastern Arizona, who recognize that developing a strong and capable
workforce begins by providing young minds with the knowledge, skills, and
abilities that today’s businesses are looking for.
